Testimonials

"I just wanted to share that I work at WPIC and was with Tanner during his admission here. He was such an incredibly kind soul, and he will always be with me in some capacity as I navigate this career. I wanted to share that there have been so many instances of patient joy and community building with the crocs - watching patients try them on together, swap pairs, share, compliment/support each other, and develop community—all in Tanner's honor—has been so beautiful. the patients and I are so grateful for your work!"

Handwritten thank you card from a patient stating: “I just wanted to send a note with my sincere appreciation for the sweatshirt I received at WPIC (UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital). I was recently admitted there and left my suitcase in the car, and they would not allow me to retrieve it. So, other than the pajamas they provided and the clothes I had on, I had nothing else to wear until receiving your very generous donation of the sweatshirt. Your kindness, and that of your son’s, has touched my heart, and I’ll be eternally grateful.”

“Every patient has been so appreciative of their gift. There was even one patient who was very shy and refused the Crocs at first. However, after seeing everyone wearing theirs, he came up to me and asked if it was too late to accept. I asked his size and brought him back his Crocs. He was so happy.”

“I spent all weekend on the unit and once again just so awesome seeing everyone wearing their crocs!!! We have a young male right now for whom this is his first admission— he’s been incredibly isolative the first few days, but yesterday I brought him some crocs to his room, and he smiled so, so big and said, “I didn’t think they gave you gifts here”. I explained that they’re donated by a family whose son was on this unit, and he understood the power of connecting with others through small acts of kindness, like giving another patient his crocs. Now they honor him through those same acts and making sure you guys feel as comfortable as possible while you’re in the hospital. Well, 30 minutes later he came out and asked if I’d play cards with him. Me and him played cards with another patient for 2 hours, he was smiling and laughing, and it warmed my heart knowing when I went home after that shift, he at least had another patient on the floor he now felt comfortable hanging out with and talking to. You’re doing such amazing work!!!”

“March Fourth is a day for celebration! It is the birthday of Tanner Faircloth who is the reason that patients admitted to our hospital are treated with just an extra special touch of compassion and dignity. The March Fourth Foundation provides clothing items to any of our patients who need a pair of shoes, a crewneck sweatshirt, or a sports bra. Any person who needs one of these items can receive one or all of these if the staff requests them on behalf of the person. The foundation has already provided hundreds of these items to our patients!"

"Thank you for allowing us to share your journey. You’re providing a basic need for someone that is not possible to provide it

on their own at that time. In reality, you’re giving that person love and hope at a moment where all is lost. Thank you for allowing us to see all that you do."

“Delivering the crewnecks to the other unit made my whole week! Everyone was so excited. They immediately put them on and walked around talking with other patients about them. They all said they were so cute, soft, and comfortable. They couldn't believe a person went through the trouble to make sure they got such a nice crewneck. They were also making jokes like "hey nice shirt" and "we're twinning!". I could feel the mood lift on both wings of the unit. You have truly made a difference.”

“I had the privilege of working on this project for the nonprofit March Fourth and delivering brand new Crocs and crewneck sweatshirts to every patient on our 9th and 10th floor today! It was an amazing day! If you're able, please consider supporting March Fourth so that we may continue providing these much needed items to our patients.”

"I just finished the crewneck patient delivery for today. One patient was so excited, he took his hospital gown off in the middle of group and put his crewneck on!"

I“You have worked so hard on making sure Tanner has not died in vain. Your work to keep his memory and helping others through March Fourth is amazing, all while you walk a difficult journey.”

"It's amazing to see the patients happily walking in the halls with their crewnecks on!"

A comment listed on the most recent UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital patient survey: "Patient is thankful for the donated sweatshirt given by the Faircloth family."

"I have delivered sweatshirts to people already wearing one. When I asked where they got it, they stated that another patient let them borrow it until they got theirs. It reminds me of the compassion that your son had on the unit by giving another patient his Crocs - he is inspiring that same compassion among our current patients!!"
